Today Lithuanian and Austrian experts presented the recommendations on approximation of the Law on Personal Data Protection to the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). There some new powers of the Commissioner provided for by the new draft such as to impose administrative fines, to draw up and publish methodological recommendations on personal data processing and protection, to participate in the drafting of laws and legal acts of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine regulating protection of personal data.
The draft Law has been developed in collaboration of the EU experts and the representatives of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. The round table has brought together international experts, representatives of the Ukrainian Parliament, government institutions and civil society to discuss the proposed novelties.
Harmonization of the Ukrainian legislation with the EU law is one of the priority tasks of the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, which provides for an adequate level of personal data protection in accordance with the best European and international standards.
